A Side Room at The Bronze, Sunnydale, Friday Evening

It was entirely possible that Warren didn't actually know the meaning of the word 'overkill.' At least, not when it came to organizing parties. And especially not when it came to organizing parties that people would be travelling across the multiverse to attend. He'd sprung for the rental of one of the side rooms at The Bronze, of course, and in doing so he might have gone just slightly carried away, paying to have the place decked out in garlands and icicle lights and, yes, mistletoe. Christmas carols were playing as people arrived, though thankfully they would be interspersed with less seasonal music throughout the night, and there was a spread of food that included not only sugar cookies and egg nog, but also the typical potato chips and veggie platters.

And, yeah, a fruitcake. Warren wasn't certain how the fruitcake had wound up on the table, but he wasn't really going to be terribly surprised if the thing stayed there the entire night, either.

Poor fruitcake.

[For those people who got invitations to the party, and up early for timezones and the like!]

Raven held open her arms and moved to hug Kennedy. "I have," she admitted, giving Kennedy a squeeze. "I finally gave in to Prince Luciver's wishes that I learn to defend myself, so I have been training with him a few times each week."

Kennedy was happy to return the hug (carefully). "You? Learning self-defense?" She pretended to peer closely at Raven. "This is you and not a pod-person, right? Seriously, though, you look good. I'm impressed."

"It is still me," Raven said. "I promise I have not suddenly embraced violence."

She took a step back and looked Kennedy over. "You look well, too. How have you been? How is Willow?"

Oh, god, and now Kennedy was glancing around to see if anyone had been in hearing distance for that. "We're good. Really good. Back home for Christmas-- the holidays," she corrected herself, "and enjoying the chance for a little break from the busy. How's college for you?"

"My studies have been keeping me busy," Raven said. "And Dinah has been trying to teach me to drive." Comedy gold, Kennedy. Comedy gold.

She frowned at how Kennedy had looked around. "I am sorry," she said, dropping her voice. "I should not mention her here? I will not do so again."

"And nobody sent me video of the driving lessons," Kennedy intoned sadly, and cleared her throat. "No, it's just..." She scrambled for a quick explanation. "Different timelines, possible confusion kinda thing? No big, really."

Raven nodded. "I understand," she said. "I do not wish to cause any distress."

She raised her voice again, smiling. "I do not think anyone thought to record the lessons," she said. "But I have been fortunate and have not run into anything." Yet.

"Let's keep it that way?" Kennedy asked, considering whether she should be calling Dinah and demanding to know why she'd thought that was a good idea. Nah. "I was kidding, by the way. About the video."

"Dinah thought it would be a good skill for me to learn, just in case," Raven said, as if reading Kennedy's mind. "Though I have little use for it, of course, since I can teleport. But most people at school know how to drive, and I seem unusual because I cannot."

Well, there were a lot of reasons she seemed unusual.

...and Kennedy had gotten so used to Willow just sort of hanging out in her head on a regular basis that she actually thought for a second that Raven had read her mind.


Plus she was trying very hard not to comment on the other reasons.

"Is that such a bad thing, though?" asked the girl who'd never had an insecure moment in her life. "I think it's cool, you being different."

"Well, I do not see myself suddenly driving all over Gotham," Raven said. She shrugged her shoulders a little. "I have just been trying to learn new things. And it is not always easy being different."

"I guess not," Kennedy relented, looking abashed at having taken that for granted again. (She was trying to get better, honest.) "Does anybody give you shit for it? 'cause if so..."

She trailed off, but her jaw was set in a resolutely protective way.

"No, no, it has not been too bad," Raven said, shaking her head. "Some people assume I am a follower of the Earth religion of Hinduism, and I fear I have done little to dissuade them. On occasion I have had to deal with people who have had too much to drink and try to touch my chakra, though." She wrinkled her nose at the thought of that.

Kennedy grimaced. "Ew. Boundaries, people. Seriously. Please tell me there isn't some skeezy pickup line to go with it?"

"You do not want to know the answer to that," Raven said. "But they are just being drunk and foolish."

Kennedy rolled her eyes. "I probably already do know the answer to that. Hell, I probably know it in Portuguese by now, too." So sue her if she was hot and people tried to hit on her at every ubiquitous Brazilian street party.

Raven laughed softly and shook her head. "It is not too bad," she said. "I keep to my room when there are parties going on on my floor. It is a curious thing that college students seem to wish to pass their weekends drinking as much as they can."
