The Village of Haven, Arceria, Kaeleer, Tuesday Evening (Fandom time)

So, Warren had been sitting on it now for a little while. It had only been a day, according to Fandom, since Karla had formed her Court, but in Kaeleer, it had been two. A very busy two. They were in Haven, now, making the last of their plans before the procession into Sidra and everything that that would entail. And, the entire time, there was something that Warren had been itching to scream from the rooftops, and finally, he'd found a moment edgewise in order to do it.

First, he'd left a message for Bobby. Before anyone else, Bobby.

But, after that, it was fair game. He pulled out his phone, tapped out a quick text, and sent it to everyone on his phone's contact list:

We're engaged!

Apologies to those in Kaeleer, who were getting that text at an obscene hour of the night. Warren had been a little too anxious to share it to bother weeding through his contacts. Plus he hadn't had much sleep lately. Eh, he'd apologize to anybody that had been inconvenienced by that text in the morning.

[OOC: NFB for distance, obviously! If you think you got Warren's text, you totally did! Open for return texts, phone calls, other people who have a reason to be in bed with him in Haven...]

"You're the one who texted me," Karla pointed out. "I was falling asleep and my phone buzzed and it's a text from you."

So, yep, butt-pinchings.

"Oh, you were on that list?" Warren blinked at his phone. "Oh. Everyone was on that list."

Well, that explained that.

"Um, congratulations, we're engaged?"

In case she'd forgotten!

Karla snorted at him. "We are?" she asked, before blinking at him in surprise. "When did that happen? Why wasn't I informed?"


Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

"I know it's kind of sudden," Warren laughed, wriggling closer to her in the bed so that he could sling an arm around her. He was seriously contemplating attempting to tickle her silly. "I'm certain if you try hard enough, you can contain your shock."

Karla snuggled closer and laughed at him. "I'll have to think deeply about this," she said. "It doesn't sound in character for me. I'm normally a lot more gun-shy about these things."

"You always were so timid, it's true." Warren's wing joined his arm, draping over her like a living blanket. "But if you can find it in your heart to give me a chance, I'm sure we can find some way to overcome your crippling inability to accept the inevitable."

Which was, of course, the impending wedding that they couldn't possibly set a date for yet.

"Well, I'm scared of commitment," Karla lied cheerfully. "And not really thrilled with the idea of people being in my personal space."

She said, nuzzling into his wings.

Oh, he could so tell.

"Well, then I should probably leave you with some breathing room, huh?"

He said, pulling her closer against his chest.

"Maybe a little more space?" Karla asked, nudging his wings so they'd wrap around her, too. "I'm also a germophobe."

"And, as we know, wings are a breeding ground for cooties," Warren replied, chuckling a little as he wrapped her up in both wings. Who needed blankets when you had a Warren? "You could already be infected."

"I probably am," Karla said with a wrinkle of her nose. "I guess I'd better not kiss you. Darkness only knows what kind of icky things I might catch."

It was safe to say that she was already leaning down to brush her lips over his, yes.

"More cooties," Warren murmured, just before their lips met. And then, once that kiss was through, he grinned, letting his forehead rest against hers, and added, "all of the cooties."

Poor Karla. Knocked down in her youthful prime by Warren cooties. The worst kind.

Hey, the last time Warren had cooties, he'd turned gray and murderous. Maybe Karla was right to be a Warren-germophobe.

Might make that whole 'getting married' thing pretty awkward though.

"Thank the Darkness I'm a Healer then," she murmured. "Otherwise, I'd have no hope of recovery."

"You might just be doomed," Warren said, sounding completely and utterly apologetic, honest. "As a mutant, I should be immune to cooties. These are some extra tough ones."

They were the cootiest of cooties, Karla. And Warren was getting them all over you with his kissing and his snuggling. All over.

All over? Hmm...Karla could learn to appreciate cooties a bit more. Except for the inevitable death-warrant they came with, of course.

"But Warren?" Karla said, letting her lip tremble a little as she looked up at him. "But what about the baby?!"

"Cooties," Warren said sadly. "The baby is, in fact, just one big cootie."

Sorry, Kayla.

She would remind you of this conversation one day, Warren. And point out that, once again, it was all your fault.

For now, however, Karla was just going to sputter a laugh and swat at him. "You are the absolute worst, you know that?"

"And that must be your curse," Warren laughed. "Being attracted to horrible, cootie-infected people like me."

Someday, when she reminded him of this conversation, he was going to adopt 'Cootie' as a nickname for their firstborn. Affectionately.

And because he was the worst.

Nommy would thank him for that, even if Kayla never would.

"Have you ever tried not being horrible?" Karla asked. "You know, just for variety?"

Yes, but 'Cootie' wasn't half as permanent a nickname as 'Nommy' was, was it?

"I've considered it, now and again," Warren offered. "But then I came to the realization that I'm happy with who I am."

A beat, as he kind of laid there, repeating those words in his mind a few times before smiling and pulling her a little more closely against his chest.

"I am. I'm happy with who I am. Huh."

Karla's smile was bright and she hugged him hard at that. "I'm glad to hear it," she said and if she sounded a little choked up, well, who could blame her? "I'm happy with who you are, too. In fact, I'm madly in love with you--so much I'm gonna marry you."

In case he'd forgotten.

He hadn't! But damn, it was good to hear!

"Funny," Warren laughed, pulling her close and holding her tight, "that's about as much as I'm madly in love with you, too."

It worked out nicely, didn't it?

"We're getting married, you know," she informed him, snuggling close. "We've been talking about it for awhile, but now it's one step closer."

It would stay at that distance for some time, but still--closer than it had been.
