Room 218, Saturday Morning

"Huh."

Warren hadn't really expected last night to go quite the way that it had. Being caught at Karla's door had been unexpected, but not entirely unlikely, considering how long he'd dithered in the doorway. Coming in to talk... made sense. It had been a long time coming. The conversation to follow that is still being played out had been a long time coming, too.

Staying up so late to talk that he and Karla had just both kind of zonked out together? That was the part he really hadn't seen coming.

"... Huh."

But he didn't really mind, either. And he didn't particularly want to wake Karla up, so there he was, blinking up at the ceiling, kind of trying to work his head around it, a bit.

Jaenelle Mara decided that she also needed to climb up on the bed and cling to her mother, so that those other children couldn't hog all her attention.

"I should say we do," she said. "I still don't know who he is. And where's Daddy? He'd be able to sort all of this out."

"I'm Warren," offered the still somewhat befuddled mutant on the bed as he attempted to gather the two winged ones up into his arms. The beginnings of the sorting process, right here.

Possibly also an attempt at keeping the peace. The little boy had just licked one of his fingers, and had been attempting to stick it into the little red-haired girl's ear until he'd been interrupted by his, uh, dad.

"Who's your dad? I'm sure he's around here somewhere?"

The look he gave to Karla almost screamed please, let him be around here somewhere.

"My Daddy is Jedi Knight Ben Skywalker," Jaenelle Mara announced with a withering glare at him for not knowing that already. The children he was dandling on his lap got a slightly pitying smile, since her Daddy was clearly much superior that their. "He's got a spaceship and a lightsaber and the Force," she added, just to rub it in a bit further.

Karla was just going to facepalm repeatedly and bemoan her lack of appropriate icon. "Yes, thank you, Jaenelle Mara. That was very...err, comprehensive. And believe me, I'll be calling your daddy in a few minutes."

Maybe he could take care of her for a bit while she tried to sort out this whole...mess.

Being named after Auntie J did give the other girl's claim a bit more legitimacy, but still, "Uncle Ben can't be your daddy!" Kayla protested. "He's our uncle! He says Mommy is like his sister! That's gross!" She made a face to show just how gross that idea was.

It would be like marrying Nommy! Eeeeeew!

"Besides, our Daddy has Mommy," Nommy announced, because if you asked him, that was way cooler than a lightsaver and the fence, so there.

There was a moment's pause, and then he announced, "And I'm hungry!"

Karla's stomach growled. "So am I," she admitted.

"Me, too!" Kayla and Jaenelle Mara called out in unison, not to be outdone. And then scowled at one another.

Why didn't the dorms have room service?

Warren blinked at the... small gaggle of hungry people that he was surrounded by, and then, upon further reflection, realized that he hadn't eaten since probably about lunchtime yesterday.

"Okay," he said, smiling faintly. "I think we can arrange food. What do you guys want? It isn't too early for pizza yet, is it?"

Warren's parenting skills.

Fear them.

"Darkness, no, pizza would be wonderful," Karla said eagerly, shoving her stupid dress out of the way. She needed a shower. And a change of clothing. And a room not filled with children under the age of ten. Who called her 'Mommy.'

"What does everyone like on their pizza?" she asked.

Poor, stupid Karla.

"Mushrooms!" Kayla yelled at the same time Jaenelle Mara called out "Pepperoni!"

"Eww," Kayla said, making a face. "Peppernoni is gross!"

"No sir!" Jaenelle Mara retorted. "Mushrooms are gross! Pepperoni is good. Or says anyone with half a brain!"

"Nuh-unh!"

"Yeah-huh!"

"Jellybeans!"

That would be nommy. Nommy had the best taste in pizza toppings ever and would argue that fact with you until the end of time.

"And 'smallows!"

Clearly, the girls were just dumb.

"... There's something to be said for personal-sized pizzas," Warren noted, kind of staring at the kids as they tried to duke it out. "That way, she can have her mushrooms, and you can have your pepperoni, and... Uh..."

He kind of frowned as he contemplated the little boy's request.

"Maybe we'll get you Hawaiian. And some jellybeans for everyone for dessert."

Hawaiian seemed safe. Pineapple was never a bad choice.

"Hawaiian for me," Karla said, jumping on that idea. "Personal pizzas for everyone. Pepperoni for Jaenelle Mara, mushroom for...for..."

Darkness, what were these children's names?

"What are your names, darlings?" she asked. "Help your Mother out here. It's been a very long day and it's barely midmorning."
