Room 218, Saturday Morning

"Huh."

Warren hadn't really expected last night to go quite the way that it had. Being caught at Karla's door had been unexpected, but not entirely unlikely, considering how long he'd dithered in the doorway. Coming in to talk... made sense. It had been a long time coming. The conversation to follow that is still being played out had been a long time coming, too.

Staying up so late to talk that he and Karla had just both kind of zonked out together? That was the part he really hadn't seen coming.

"... Huh."

But he didn't really mind, either. And he didn't particularly want to wake Karla up, so there he was, blinking up at the ceiling, kind of trying to work his head around it, a bit.

[Muwahaha, I'm a dirty room-modder! For the girlfriend and any wee ones that might come running along!]

"Uh huh," Elizabeth said. "And Joni's bigger, too." That was equally as important as what color her father was.

"Ooh! Joni!" Kayla cooed. "Joni's a good kitty. She's a pet not like KaeAskavi or the puppies from Ladvarian's litter," she explained to the room.

Kindred animals weren't pets. That was the rule.

"Nooo she's a kitty and she was Daddy's and now she's mine," Elizabeth said.

"Whose is she while she's here and so are you?" Kayla asked.

"Umm, mine, I guess," Elizabeth decided. Because her claim totally superseded any other, yes.

"Can I come and see her?" Kayla asked. "I want a kitten. Daddy, can I have a kitten?"

Go ahead, Warren. Say no to those eyes,

... Oh, those were some fairly persuasive eyes, right there.

"Maybe... ask me again when you get back home," he attempted.

Maybe some future Warren had managed to learn the trick to withstanding adorable Kayla eyes, somewhere down the road?

"Say yes, Uncle Warren!" Elizabeth insisted. "Pleeeeeease? You should have lots and lots and lots of kittens!" So she could play with them too!

"I think Uncle Warren has already given his answer," Karla said firmly. "Neither of us are going to give permission about things back at your real home."

Elizabeth leaned over to Kayla. "You can tell them they said yes anyway and they'd never know," she whispered.

Clearly someone didn't entirely adhere to their mother's refusal (well, most of the time) to lie.
